Part 1:

I'd like to take a moment today to thank the Monterey Formation and its associated counterparts. This geologic formation of the Tertiary time period has a marine and continental sedimentary rocks, primarily mudstones around SLO County (Pismo Fomation) and in the bedrock underlying hills in Monterey County. Pictured is the Pismo Formation in SLO county.

The most fascinating part lies within the stratigraphy (and the strike/dip) of the bedded mudstone. In this mere sliver of time that humans live in, the reefs have been subject to uplift and erosion and have formed, due to the above mentioned features of the mudstone, particularly uniform marine terraces and shore platforms that create mind-blowing waves.
